Transylvania Little League Opening Day FILE

Several people were injured at the Brevard Sports Complex on March 25 after several inflatable structures rented for opening day of the Transylvania Little League were moved by high winds.

The N.C. Department of Labor has fined Incredible! Inflatables and Amusements of Hendersonville a total of $37,500 related to a March incident that injured several people on the opening day of the Transylvania Little League’s 2023 season.

On March 25 seven people were treated for injuries at the Brevard Sports Complex on Ecusta Road and at least three other individuals were transported to Transylvania Regional Hospital for non-critical injuries after two children’s inflatable structures were moved by strong winds.

At the time of the incident Enoch Rae, owner of Incredible! Inflatables and Amusements of Hendersonville, said his rented inflatables were double staked and none went airborne.

Rae also told The Transylvania Times the damp ground at the time the event was set up may have compromised the holding power of the stakes.

Thursday afternoon the North Carolina Division of Labor released documents indicating their investigation found the structures were not properly set up, were missing stakes and tethers for a slide were not unrolled and attached to a stake.

The investigation report also stated an obstacle course rented for the event had not been inspected and did not have insurance.

The total amount for the violations is $37,500, but the business does have the right to contest or appeal the findings.

Requests for comment from the business and the Little League have not been returned.
