Witherspoon Platt + Associates, a real estate brokerage for luxury homes, large mountain tracts and conservation properties, announced its newest broker, Bill Kerrigan, to the firm. Kerrigan joins broker-in-charge John Witherspoon and principals Parker Platt and Al Platt, along with agents Charlotte Page, Karin Strickland, Lee Gregory and Brian Carrington.
“Bill has a unique background in land conservation that fits in well with our company philosophy of relationship-based real estate,” says Witherspoon. “He understands that the relationship between the client and agent, the land and home, the community and the family are all keys to successful transactions. Bill knows that, ultimately, people want to be happy and fulfilled with their property.”
Hailing from southeastern Indiana, where farmland and woodlands meet in the Ohio Valley, Kerrigan cultivated an early interest in the conservation of both cultural and natural resources, according to a news release. Graduating in the early 1980s from Indiana University - Bloomington with both a BS and MS, Kerrigan joined the staff of the Midwest region of the Archaeological Conservancy in Cincinnati, Ohio, working on a variety of land acquisition projects. Continuing in the Southeastern offices of The Conservancy as Regional Director in Atlanta, Kerrigan gained a deep appreciation for the foothills of the Blue Ridge in North Georgia, the upstate of South Carolina and western North Carolina.
Corporate relocations found Kerrigan in the low country of Charleston, the upper Midwest of Iowa and the White Mountains of New Hampshire, but he always found time for return visits to the Brevard area. Transylvania County proved irresistible, and in 2017 Kerrigan finally found the opportunity to call Brevard home.
“Witherspoon Platt + Associates is a dream firm for someone like me,” said Kerrigan. “My background is in conservation, as is theirs; I know of no other real estate brokerage firms that began as true, bona fide conservation group first. This experience of over 20 years in protecting the mountains we all love has given them a perspective on real estate that serves their clients with a deep respect for landscape, community, and culture. I couldn’t be happier to join up with this great group of folks and help them continue to help others find their dreams in western North Carolina.”
With his conservation land acquisition skills and a penchant for finding just the right residential property over the past 30 years, Kerrigan is an ideal fit for Witherspoon Platt + Associates. Above all, Bill understands the value of cultivating a solid personal relationship of trust and integrity along the way. Recreationally, Kerrigan, his wife, Betti, and their chocolate lab enjoy the benefits of hiking all the great trails of the National Forests. An avid fan of Indiana Hoosiers basketball and Cincinnati Reds baseball, an occasional trip to Bloomington and Cincinnati is always seasonally required… as is a penchant for grilled bratwurst from Johnsonville, Wisconsin, and an ice-cold lager IPA.
