Robert Lee Owen, 80, of Rosman, went to be home with his Lord and savior Friday, Jan. 7, 2022. He was born again in the Baptist Faith.

A native of Jackson County and a resident of Transylvania County, he was born of the late Loren E. and Thelma Galloway Owen Jan. 11, 1941. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Scot Owen; his son-in-law, Caroll A. Jackson; and four sisters, Linda Sentelle, Mary Hoxit, Faye Fletcher, and Patsy Cagle.

He received his GED through BRCC in Brevard. He then went to work at SACO Lowell in Easley, S.C., for several years. He was a supervisor, hard worker and dedicated employee at Olin/Ecusta in Pisgah Forest from 1967 until he retired in 1993. Upon retiring, he continued working and having a Class A license. He enjoyed driving a dump truck for several WNC trucking companies until the age of 76.

He is survived by the love of his life of 59 1/2 years, Frances S Owen; daughter, Connie O Jackson; son, James R. Owen and his wife, Connie F Owen; grandchildren, Daniel and David Jackson, Devin Owen, and Cassandra McCall and her husband, Clint McCall; great-grandson, Aiden Daniel Jackson, who put the biggest smile on Pop’s face; and brothers, Tommy and his wife, Sharon Owen, Paul and wife, Dorothy Owen, Ernest and wife, Sandy Owen, Gary and wife, Glenda Owen.

He and his wife and children enjoyed traveling out west and hunting in Colorado. He loved teaching his grandchildren to hunt and fish in his beloved western North Carolina mountains. He also loved for his son, James, to take him riding through his homeland in Jackson County.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 12, 2022, at Moore-Blanchard Funerals & Cremations in Brevard. The family will receive friends and family from 1 to 2 p.m. The service will be officiated by Rev. Kyle Reese. Burial will follow at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery, 1544 Calvert Road, in Brevard.
