After reading in The Transylvania Times on Oct. 27 about the county commissioners concerns about our aging courthouse I noticed that no mention was made of the fact that the New Adventure Learning Center next to the library would have to be torn down to make way for a new courthouse on Broad Street.  This learning center for children is a much needed service for our community.  Where could a new one be built and at what cost? All of this means more costs than is mentioned in the newspaper report. It looks like the best thing to do would be to renovate the existing courthouse and be done with it. It will have to be done anyway, no matter what it will be used for in the future.  A brand new courthouse plus the old courthouse renovation is going to cost millions more than projected.  So, no new courthouse is the answer. Let’s look at the whole picture and come up with a good plan ASAP.  Keep the community better informed.  Transparency is important.
