The blue ghost firefly is a secretive, hard-to-find native insect that inhabits the woodlands of Transylvania County for a short time every summer and The Cradle of Forestry has announced the 2023 Twilight Tour dates where guest may view these illuminating insects while hiking on paved trails in Pisgah National Forest.

This year’s event will be held Tuesday through Saturday, May 16 - 20, May 23-27 and June 6-10. Gates at the Cradle of Forestry open for tours starting at 8:15 p.m. and the 90-minute program starts promptly at 9 p.m. before guests are given special flashlights to use in searching for the blue ghost fireflies.

Cradle of Forestry team members will be stationed at key locations around the trail to provide further information about this amazing natural phenomenon and clear the trail and ask guests to depart by 10:30 p.m. Tours will be limited each night to no more than 125 participants.

Tickets for these dates are only available to be purchased online at www.gofindoutdoors.org and cannot be purchased at the Cradle of Forestry. Ticket purchases are limited to no more than four tickets at a time and all purchases are non-refundable.
