Citizens Workers Surprised, Sad About Sale

The announcement Wednesday that Citizens Telephone and its subsidiary Sylvan Valley CATV Company would be sold was one day shy of the 60-year anniversary of the day Charles Pickelsimer Jr. first went to work for his father, who then owned the company.

Pickelsimer said he was sad to sell the family owned business to Comporium, a telecommunications company based out of Rock Hill, S.C.

But he said he realized the consequences of what would happen to the company, and ultimately his employees, if something were to happen to him or his brother, who is a partial owner of Citizen's Telephone.
