Schools See Increase In Reported Crimes

In Transylvania County schools, incidents of crime and violence for the 2006-07 school year were up 20 percent over the previous year's figures, according to a report presented to the State Board of Education.

Crime and violence in North Carolina schools overall increased by one-half of 1 percent last year according to the report.

In 2006-07 more than 11,000 acts of crime or violence were reported statewide. In Transylvania County, there were 41 acts, up from 35 the previous year. The most commonly reported incident was possession of a weapon on school grounds.M:[MORE]##
