Landfill Expansion Now Ready For Garbage


Jeff Brookshire said he hopes to not put Garbage in the landfill expansion for another year.

Unlike most for-profit landfill operators, Jeff Brookshire looks for ways to keep garbage out of Woodruff landfill, which serves Transylvania County.

Brookshire, the director of the county's Solid Waste Department, encourages recycling and looks for ways to save "airspace."

County landfills are not run to make a profit but to do what's best for the taxpayer, Brookshire said.

"By the end of the year, we might not have a much in scale sales, but that's not my driving force," he said.
