Is there a law in this state that old, abandoned underground gasoline tanks be removed? I am concerned that an old tank might rust through and pollute the water underground. If there is a law, who enforces it? Are the tanks removed from the abandoned Shell Station at Ecusta Road and Asheville Highway?

The North Carolina Division of Waste Management regulates underground storage tanks.
