Radio Station Expands Its Reach

WGCR radio celebrated its 21st year on the air Thursday, the same day it officially made the switch from 10,000 to 25,000 watts, making it now one of the most powerful AM stations in the region.

Pastor Randy Barton, of Anchor Baptist Church, which owns WGCR 720 AM, said because the station is non-profit and non-commercial, it answers to no one and is devoted solely to the community.

Barton said that is the reason a good portion of the station's programming revolves around the weather. According to Barton, when the weather turns bad, people tune in.
