Plans For New Animail Shelter Nearly Ready

Animal rights activists in Transylvania County can take heart. Plans for a new county animal shelter are nearly ready for presentation to the board of county commissioners.

Steve Smith, director of the county Health Department, and Chuck Byrd, director of Animal Control, are impressed with the plans prepared by the architectural firm Daggett & Grigg of Charlottesville, Va.

If approved by the commissioners, the project will move animal control for the county into a new era.

The existing, outdated shelter on Ross Road was built in the late 1950s and has been unsatisfactory and overcrowded for...
