If It Weren't For A Miracle


Dick And Frances Rideout

"If it hadn't been for a miracle that happened 96 years ago, I wouldn't be here," said Frances Nichols Rideout of Brevard. That miracle occurred west of Asheville in Benton, Tenn. in the Polk Mountains (of the Appala-chian chain) in 1912.

Her father, L.S. "Smithon" Nichols was lost for 49 hours in that wilderness when he was only three years old, but he was miraculously found unharmed. The story of the rescue of that small child, and the dream that led to the exact location where he was rescued, can indeed be referred to as a miracle.
