Saftey Comes First At Courthouse

Most people don't seem to mind the new stricter security measures at the Transylvania County Courthouse, according to sheriff's deputies Kathy McKenzie and Michael Hall.

"I would say about 90 percent of people now don't mind, but some people can't understand why we have to do this for everyone," McKenzie said.

Since new measures, including a metal detector and x-ray scanner, were put into place last October, at the rec-ommendation of the N.C. Chief Justice's Rural Court Commission, deputies on the courthouse security force have seized a slew of contraband items. The most "shocking," accord...
