Rain High Winds Cause Problems

Heavy rains, lightning and high winds struck Transylvania County Tuesday, knocking out power for thousands of customers, closing four schools and causing minor flooding.

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg said the heavy rain produced from four to five inches in the headwaters of the French Broad River before the storm ended.

The river was churning near Champion Park in Rosman by the time the sun went down Tuesday and beginning to come out of its banks.

Fortunately, by then most of the rain was over, and flooding overnight was limited to roadways that typically go underw...
