School Dropout Rate Falls

The Transylvania school district was one of five counties in the 18-county western North Carolina region that saw a decrease in the student dropout rate last school year.
On Monday night, Scott Elliott, the system's director of secondary education, presented a report to the School Board about the 2006-07 figures. Elliott told the Board that, although the numbers were down, with 63 students compared to 65 in the 2005-06 school year, the school system needs to find a way to decrease that number further.
