Historic Rock Wall Will Be Fixed


The old stone wall that holds back the earth between the Transylvania County Courthouse and Broad Street is going to get an expensive makeover.

The Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to approve a construction bid and a project budget of $325,039 for the work.

The wall is beginning to lean toward the street and there is concern that it could fall, causing injuries or deaths. Several months ago, the area was fenced off. The plan is to remove some of the stones and put them back in place.
