Maroon Devils Sweep Rosman In Baseball,Softball
The Rosman Tiger baseball team narrowly avoided a no-hitter Tuesday against Swain County in a 10-0 loss.
The Maroon Devils took an early lead in the bottom of the first 3-0 and cruised, scoring in every inning but the fifth.
Rosman's sole hit came in the bottom of the sixth, when Will Baynard singled an 0-1 pitch into left field.
Swain's Brian Roland struck out 10 Rosman batters on the day.
The Tigers were battling the flu and several players were either out or impaired by their symptoms.
Dustin Mullinax took the loss, pitching one inning and giving up three runs.
Mullinax threw 37 pitches, 16 for strikes. Tyler Phillips came on in relief and pitched 41 times, 19 for strikes.
Walker Lipp pitched three innings and gave up four runs, only one of their earned, on two hits.
The Tigers play at Andrews on Friday, then travel to Hiwassee Dam on Monday before their home opener on March 18 against Cherokee.
Lady Tigers Lose
Swain completed the sweep of Rosman Tuesday with a 5-0 win over the Lady Tigers.
Rosman was led at the plate by Chelsea Chapman who went 2-for-2. Brooke Sheridan went 1-for-2.
The Lady Tigers travel to Andrews and Hiwassee Dam March 14 and 17, respectively, before opening their home season against Cherokee on March 18 at 4:30.
