State Reviews Handling Of Infant's Death

A lack of communication between the local Department of Social Services and the Brevard Police Department was one of the findings of a state review that looked at the December of 2006 death of 3-month-old Aundrea Hunter. But Brevard Police Chief Dennis Wilde said the state's own confidentiality laws hamper their actions.

The state's Department of Social Service (DSS) reported 12 findings that included a lack of mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse and ineffective domestic violence assessment procedures.

The local DSS caseworkers were carrying heavier caseloads because of vacancies...
