Retires Seek Law To Overturn EEOC Ruling
Recently the U.S. Supreme Court refused to review a lower court ruling that said the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEC) can implement a new regulation allowing employers to reduce and cancel health care benefits when retirees become eligible for Medicare, without facing age discrimination charges. The case was AARP vs. EEOC.
The EEOC regulation allows companies to cut back or eliminate benefits, including lifetime medical benefits that were earned by employees over decades of service to an employer, in many cases in exchange for accepting lower wages.
