Commissioners Upset At River Proposal
A proposal to designate the Horsepasture River as an Outstanding Resource Water (ORW) is being opposed by the Transylvania County Board of Commissioners.
In a letter sent on Tuesday to Elizabeth Kountis of the state Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Raleigh, County Manager Artie Wilson said the entire process is flawed and should be stopped.
Wilson also attended an April 22 hearing about the proposal.
"I was shocked to learn that the reclassification effort was initiated by a single call from someone in the Sierra Club in 2006," Wilson said in the letter.
