Dot Jackson, author of "Refuge," will be at Highland Books on Saturday, May 10, from 3-5 p.m. to sign copies of her historical novel set in the mountains of Western North Carolina. "Refuge" received the Appalachian Book of the Year Award in 2006, and has been a store favorite since its publication that year in hardcover. It has just been released in paperback.

"Refuge" is the story of a young woman who escapes a bad marriage, and Charleston society's expectations, by running away with her children to her father's home place in the mountains outside of Asheville. She is totally un-aware of...
