City Council Begins Ita Battle With Budget


Brevard City Council members balked at a proposed 5-cent property tax increase and spent much of its first budget workshop on Friday finding ways to eliminate the hike.

Brevard City Manager Joe Albright presented a budget for 2008-09 totaling $12,096,925 to the Council.

It represented a 7 percent increase over the previous fiscal year. The proposed budget also includes a 6 percent increase in water and sewer rates, a 5 percent cost of living increase for city employees, and reflected significant increases in the costs for fuel and health insurance.
