Brevard Budget Proposes Rate Hike For Utilities


Brevard is continuing to see rising personnel and operating costs while money spent on capital projects is continuing to decrease, a trend City Manager Joe Albright calls "extremely disconcerting."

Albright presented his $12, 099,370 budget for the 2008-08 fiscal year on Monday during City Council's regular meeting.

The proposed budget recommends no tax increase but a 6 percent rate increase for all water and sewer customers.

"Personnel costs have consumed revenue growth," Albright said.

Employee health insurance costs will increase by 12 percent, or $81,500, for the upcoming fiscal year....
