Parade, Festival Join Forces

Joe Parker remembers taking part in Memorial Day parades during the 1950s in Brevard.

On Saturday, the first parade celebrating Memorial Day in many years will again grace downtown.

Parker, a retired chief petty officer with 25 years of service in the U.S. Navy, is one of the main forces behind the parade coming back to Brevard.

"Memorial Day is an important day for all veterans,"Parker said.

The parade will begin at 9 a.m. "A Presentation of the Wreath" will then be held at 10:30 a.m. at the courthouse gazebo.
