Local Economy Slowing Down


A slowdown in visitors to local hotels and motels, and in local construction work, are being reported — all a sign that the county isn't immune to conditions that have been reported nationwide.

"This year, with gas prices and the economic conditions, summer camps are the primary tourism driver," said Layton Parker, chairman of the county Tourism Development Authority.

Parker is also regional operations manager for LS Hospitality LLC and oversees the Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express in Brevard.
