Lillie Mae Jolly Thompson
Lillie Mae Jolly Thompson of Brevard died July 27, 2008 of natural causes at the age of 94. Born July 4, 1914 in Greenville, S.C., she attended high school and college in Montreat, N.C.
She finished her bachelor's degree at the University of Georgia in Athens. Lillie lived most of her working life in Atlanta.
For over 40 years she taught first grade in the Atlanta Public School System, primarily at Morris Brandon and E. Rivers elementary schools. She was beloved by students and parents alike and was well known for teaching reading by phonics with rhythm.
