Nearly 70 Years Of History Coming Down

For Angela Elliott, the tearing down of the former Ecusta plant is bittersweet.

"For me, it is sad because I worked there for 25 years, but I'm glad they are doing something with it," she said.

"It's become an eyesore, and maybe some jobs will come out of it."

Major demolition work on the former Ecusta site is underway and is scheduled to be completed by July of next year.

More than 8,000 tons of scrap metal is expected to be hauled off the site by the end of the demolition.

The developers of Davidson River Village, as the site is now known, plan to recycle roughly 85 percent of the mater...
