Rain Brings Some Relief And Problems

 


Heavy rains associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Fay moved through Transylvania County Tuesday, causing power outages, downed trees, closed roads, a mud slide at the construction site of the new jail and hampered a rescue effort on N.C. 215.

On average, 4 to 5 inches of rain fell on Transylvania County, bringing welcome relief from a prolonged drought.

However, the rain downed numerous trees and tree branches, knocking out power to 8,500 customers of Haywood EMC at one time or another, according to spokesman Ken Thomas.
