Historical Marker Tells Story Of 1865 Shooting

A large marker telling the story of the 1865 shooting of William Deaver in a case of mistaken identity has been placed on the Allison-Deaver House property as part of the North Carolina Civil War Trails Program.

Transylvania County is home to a unique piece of its past history, the "oldest standing frame house west of the Blue Ridge." Built by Benjamin Allison circa. 1815, it was purchased by William Deaver in 1830 and enlarged to its current size to accommodate the seven children he and his wife, Margaret Patton Deaver, raised there and to reflect his position as a significant landowner in...
