Board Member Apologizes For Weapon Mistake

Transylvania County School Board Member Mike Rogers said he wants others to learn from his recent arrest and apply for a concealed handgun permit.

The six-year school board member was charged by the High Point Police Department on Sept. 3 for a misdemeanor violation of carrying a concealed handgun in his personal vehicle.

"I apologize for any negative bearing this may have had on my leadership in our school system," said Rogers in a press release to Transylvania County School employees.

"I intend to correct my actions by obtaining the correct concealed weapon permit as required by law."
