Hurricane Impact Felt At The Local Gas Pump

Finding gas in Transylvania County has been an adventure since late last week, when Hurricane Ike's impact on the refineries and fuel storage facilities in Texas and Louisiana caused a run on local gas stations.

This morning, several stations on the Asheville Highway in Brevard had bags over their gas pumps and no gas for sale until further notice, clerks said.

Those included Mr. Pete's, Enmark, and Texaco Triangle Stop. Jarrett's Store in Rosman still had gas, but the price had reached $5.59 a gallon for regular.Owner David Jarrett was forced to purchase gas from an Ohio supplier instead o...
