Board Assesses Eight-Stop County Tour
The Transylvania County Planning Board has completed a two-month, eight-stop tour of the county, gathering input from citizens on the issues that concern them most.
Residents have a lot of concerns, but one issue rises above them all, said board member Jackie Whitmire.
"I think we've learned the main thing people are concerned about is jobs," she said.
The closing of the Ecusta paper mill, the DuPont x-ray film plant, and other manufacturing operations in the county in recent years has left some residents working in less lucrative positions. Some have simply moved away.
