Kenyan Brings His Message To Brevard

Patrick Lumumba is a long way from his home in Kenya. But he's hoping that his visit to America, which included a recent stop in Brevard, will help him advance his work in one of the world's poorest communities.

He is the headmaster at the Mercy Care Centre, a non- denominational primary school in the slums of Mathare Valley, Kenya. He spoke recently to the congregation at Glady Branch Baptist Church in Brevard.

More than 500,000 people live in two square miles in this valley, which is considered the oldest and worst slum in Africa.

Most families average about nine members and live in homes...
