Construction Industry Ready For Upturn

The recent economic downturn has meant fewer bricks are being laid and hammers pounded in the local construction industry.

"The economy is definitely taking a big bite out of construction," said Ed Burdette, owner of Burdette Construction and one of the builders at French Broad Place in Brevard.

"There are just not a lot of plans for new houses coming to us."

Burdette said his residential construction crew is "dead" on projects and they were "looking at small projects" to keep them going.

"Anything is better than being out of work for six months," said Burdette.
