Chappell,Phillips Win Another Board Term

Republicans will continue to make up the majority of the five-member Transylvania County Board of Commissioners after incumbents Jason Chappell and Kelvin Phillips took the top two spots on Tuesday, and Mike Hawkins, also a Republican, leads a close race for the third open seat.

The third seat is still open, as roughly 275 provisional votes have yet to be counted.

The unofficial totals provided on Wednesday morning had Chappell with 7,971, or 16.9 percent.

Phillips was next with 7,909, or 16.8 percent; Hawkins, with 7,578, or 16.1 percent; Democrat Sara Champion, with 7,548 or 16 percent;...
