Middle Ages Machinery Is A Big Hit

There were about 50 people at Rich DeJong's home on Cathey's Creek Church Road recently, and Mike Hawkins said no one knew what to expect.

Hawkins and the others had been invited to witness DeJong's homemade trebuchet in action. A trebuchet was primarily used during the Middle Ages as a siege weapon. The weapon "threw" objects over and against an enemy's walls.

"The trebuchet was in his driveway and everyone was amazed by its size and workmanship, but no one knew if it would actually work," Hawkins said.
