Former Charlotte mayor and 2008 gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory was the keynote speaker Saturday at the Transylvania County Republican Party's celebration of former President Ronald Reagan's 100th birthday.
County Commissioner Jason Chappell introduced McCrory, who lost his bid for the governor's job in 2008 to Beverley Perdue, to a large crowd at the Brevard High School cafeteria.
Chappell said McCrory was one of Charlotte's youngest mayors, a hard worker, served as a security advisor for President George W. Bush and stood beside Arizona's immigration law.
