Students Grow Greens, Bring In Greenbacks

Rosman High School students are currently selling lettuce and fresh cut herbs to the Blue Ridge Bakery and the Marco Trattori restaurant. The Rosman High School agriculture department has been growing annual flowers and vegetable plants in the greenhouse for several years, and last fall decided to venture into the fresh greens business.

"Right now we are growing fresh lettuce and herbs in our greenhouse," said Heather McNeely, who teaches horticulture classes at Rosman High. "We are selling chef blend leaf and bibb lettuce. The herbs we're growing are cilantro, oregano, parsley, basil, and dill. Everything is organically produced and grown pesticide free."
