Outdoor Adventure Exhibit Opens At TC Arts

The Transylvania Community Arts Council just opened its newest exhibit entitled Outdoor Adventure, which will run through March 28. Tammy Hopkins, executive director of the arts council, said, "This art exhibit celebrates the beauty and adventure of where we live. Transylvania County is known for its art and for its outdoor recreation, so why not combine them! We also wanted to tie in with the Banff Film Festival which will run March 18 and 19 at Brevard College."

Mediums include: photography, paintings, sculpture, glass, baskets, wood, fiber, mixed media and ceramics. Artists featured in this exhibit include Jane Burnet, Joe Bruneau, Charles Battaglia, Ray Byram, Mark Connelley, Connie Dorner, Shana Greger, Joe Hagarty, Michael Hatch, William "Pete" Hurt, Katie Lobdell, Hal Looney, Carol MacAllister, Tom Nebbia, Peggy O'Conner, Karen Pierre and Nancy Rosenthal. Outdoor recreation vendors participating include Davidson River Outfitters, Headwaters Outfitters and SylvanSport.

The public is invited to a reception to meet the artists on Friday, March 18 from 5-7 p.m. at the TC Arts Council. This reception is just before the opening night of the Banff Film Festival. Brevard's own SylvanSport will be at the TC Arts Council for the reception on Friday night showcasing their SylvanSport Go Camper. The company was founded in Transylvania County in 2004, and makes what National Geographic Adventure calls, "the coolest camper ever."

The TC Arts Council gallery is located at 349 S. Caldwell Street in Brevard. The gallery will be open Mondays " Fridays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and on Saturday, March 19 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. during the film festival weekend.
