If the city of Brevard's population growth rate is 2 percent per year, its water plant will not be able to handle the demand by 2024.
This scenario and others, plus recommendations on how to handle future demand, were part of a study of the city's water capacity presented during the recent Brevard City Council retreat.
According to the N.C, Department of Treasury, the city has an annual growth rate that fluctuates between .5 and 3.3 percent a year. The city believes a 2 percent average increase is a good indicator.
