Library Has Served Residents Since 1912


Transylvania County Library is a peaceful place to browse the extraordinary multi-media collection, do research, enjoy reading for pleasure or for work, write, relax, or surf the Internet. But it did not start out this way.

The 35,000 square foot library, currently housing over 100,000 titles in its collection, started out in 1912 in a 600 square foot “oversized shack” with 300 donated books. It was known as the Confederate Memorial Library.
