The Haven Opens Its Doors To Transylvania’s Homeless


The Haven of Transylvania County, the first homeless shelter to open its doors in the Brevard area, has begun operation just in time for the cold weather. The facility opened last Monday and has had 28 people stay, so far.

The 1,400-square-foot Haven is located in a brand new, newly furnished building located right behind the Bread of Life at 242 S. Caldwell St.

The shelter is operated by a private, non-profit organization that formed locally to respond to growing homelessness in this area. It receives no government funding. The Haven is open to people needing overnight shelter beginning a...
