Trees Cut In Glen Cannon After Beetle Outbreak

Two different sets of beetles have wreaked havoc with pine trees at Glen Cannon Country Club, forcing management there to cut down dozens of trees all across the golf course.

Home owners are also affected by the bug-killed trees as some have been forced to remove dead and dying pines at their own expense.

But despite the destruction, area foresters said there is no reason to panic, as this bug “infestation” ranks far below the devastation wrought by the pine bark beetle and hemlock wooly adelgid.

The beetles that have attacked local pines are the turpentine beetle and IPS beetle.
