‘Unusual’ Hail Hits Brevard

After a day that felt more like May than March, many Brevard residents were surprised to see the sidewalks, streets and grass covered in ice on Thursday afternoon.

But the seemingly sudden return to winter was not due to snow, but instead a large hailstorm that pounded parts of Transylvania County just after 4 p.m.

The quarter-inch size hail covered the roadways, clogged gutters and ditches and knocked the early blooms from some area trees before melting Thursday evening.
