Ruth Elizabeth Luker Bowen

 


Ruth Elizabeth Luker Bowen, 99, of Rosman, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the Brian Center in Brevard.

She was born on May 27, 1912 in Transylvania County to the late Marcus and Mandie Fowler Luker. She was married on Sept. 7, 1946, in Pickens County to Homer Cleveland Bowen. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sons, K. Revis and Joseph Louis Luker; her brothers, Haskell, Claude and Woodrow Luker, and her sister, Beulah Capps.

Over the years she worked at Ecusta Paper Corp. and American Thread Co. She did babysitting for many years and held several domestic jobs for different individuals.

She was 99 years old and would have been 100 in May and was a lifelong resident of Transylvania County. She was a member of the Rosman Church of God and she truly loved her church family. Her passions in life were her quilts that she made, traveling on her day trips with friends and eating out, but most of all, she loved sitting at her quilting frames.

Surviving are her grandchildren, Martha Rice and husband, Sammy, of Cashiers, Margaret Camp and husband, Randy, of Green River, N.C., Randall Luker, Ellery Dalton, and Marl Luker, all of Anderson, S.C; great-grandchildren, Gregory Camp and wife, Christina, James and Randy Camp, Becky and Victoria Luker, and Joseph and Angela Dalton; great-great- grandchildren, David Luker and Levi Reese; several nieces and nephews; special people in her life, David Kenneth McCall and Norma McCall Shipman.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 21, at the Rosman Church of God, with Rev. Mike Pressley officiating.

Pallbearers will be David McCall, and her grandsons, Gregory, James and Randy Camp, Jesse and Joseph Dalton, and David Luker.

Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery on Calvert Road.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at the Rosman Church of God. At other times, the family will be at her house on Burnt Road in Rosman.
