Sawmill Carries On An Old Tradition

On Asheville Highway, just after drivers come down Little Mountain, three natives of Transylvania County are carrying on a long tradition at the Piney Mountain Sawmill.

The mill is the last operating sawmill for hire remaining in the county.

One might drive by the place hundreds of times before noticing the sawmill. The mill is below a steep slope on the east side of the road.

The controlling partner of the mill is Audie McCall, who is joined at work by his brothers, Joey and David.

Their father and grandfather were also in the business before them, Audie said.
