Unattended Death

Law enforcement officers are investigating an unattended death in Pisgah National Forest that occurred on April 15. At around 3:20 p.m., a Pisgah National Forest ranger discovered the man slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle. Foul play is not believed to have been a factor in the death.


On April 12, there was a report of a larceny by an employee from a business on Pisgah Forest Drive. A collection of jewelry and a jewelry box were reported stolen. The value of the property is estimated at $1,100. There is a suspect.

On April 12, there was a report of a larceny on Cash Road in Sapphire that was believed to have occurred April 11. Twenty-five feet of three quarter inch copper pipe valued at $100 was stolen from a rental home.

On April 12, there was a report of a larceny from a motor vehicle at the Corn Mill Shoals parking area in DuPont State Recreational Forest. An unknown suspect broke the passenger side window of a vehicle and stole a Yeti mountain bike valued at $3,800. Also stolen were a Garmin GPS unit, Oakley sunglasses and a bike rack. The damage to the vehicle was estimated at $450. The total loss of property was estimated at $4,250.
