Elections Board Discusses Voter Primary Concern


BREVARD, N.C. — A local election official admits he was wrong when he made comments to a voter during the May primary but insists he was trying to be helpful and was not trying to persuade the voter.

Transylvania County Board of Elections officials discussed and reviewed the incident Friday.

Thomas Raines, of Brevard, said he went to the polls on May 8 to vote on Amendment One, commonly known as the marriage amendment. Raines, a professed Democrat, said as he approached the voting booth a voting assistant told him that “all the Democrats are voting against the marriage amendment.”...
