The Library’s Centennial Celebration Continues –Transylvania County NC


One hundred years ago this month, Brevard and Transylvania County’s first library was established. Imagine what life was like for Brevard citizens in 1912: life expectancy for men was 48.4 years, women 51.8. (It’s now male 75.6; female: 80.8). The Ziegfeld Follies was wildly popular and milk was 32 cents a gallon. It was the year Arizona and New Mexico were admitted to the Union, the British ocean liner RMS Titanic sank, and suffragists and their supporters were parading in New York City.
