Community Garden Shares Its Bounty

“Last fall we didn’t know whether we’d even have a garden. By July, we had squash plants tall enough for small children to hide under,” said Rob Field, rector at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Brevard.

Field was referring to the Rice Street Community Garden, planted on a sloping hillside owned by the church, behind the Comporium parking lot on East Main Street.

The garden welcomes all community volunteers and has been successful beyond all expectations.

By early October, the gardeners had harvested lettuce, cabbage, onions, collard greens, Swiss chard, broccoli, okra, beans, cuc...
